If there's one thing we see prominently on our highways nowadays, it is long-haul trucks. Transporting freight, materials, food and other goods from one location to another, trucking companies make it possible for us to have the supplies and goods that we not only want, but need.
The need for the transportation of goods has been around since the beginning of time. In our history we have always depended on trade for not only survival, but economic growth. With the birth of the vehicle, transporting goods as a business became so much easier, not to mention profitable. With the ease of transporting ones products further away than the next town, businesses were able to grow and therefore profit more.
As time went on, the evolution of larger trucks and important features became more prominent. At first it was impossible to drive at night since early vehicles didn't have lights. Once lights were added, travel was faster because night driving was possible. Further down the history line trucks with refrigeration were brought to the forefront, making the delivery of perishable items possible to greater distances.
Driving large trucks now requires a commercial driver's license. Acquiring this type of license includes obtaining additional education and training. These types of transport vehicles are different to handle than the normal vehicle. The Department of Transportation governs the trucking industry to make sure that everyone on our highways stay safe, therefore, additional rules and regulations are set in place for the commercial truck driving industry.
With so many of us across the nation dependent on goods from other places, it is hard to imagine life without the conveniences the trucking companies provide. Our economy thrives because of what they can transport.
